Daddy Warbucks Scores First 2015 Win
A recent newcomer to the Alberta racing scene, Daddy Warbucks earned his first win of the year on Saturday night in the $11,500 Open Handicap Pace at Northlands Park.
Former Ontario competitor Daddy Warbucks ($8.30) prevailed off a three-hole trip to win his third start in Alberta and 21st start of the year. He sprinted his final quarter in :28.1 to prevail in 1:54.2. The favoured sophomore colt First Class Horse closed from the pocket, but came up a head short at the wire. Ghost Pine was the race leader through fractions of :27.1, :56.2 and 1:25.3 and finished two and a half lengths behind in third.
The feature win was part of a training/driving triple on the 11-race card for Travis Cullen, who shares ownership of the Western Hanover gelding with Donald and Michael Byrne of Edmonton.
The eight-year-old pacer now has 28 career wins and earnings over $300,000.
