Favourites Sweep London Preferreds
A set of Preferred events went postward during Monday’s 11-race card at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and favourites came through in both tilts.
Insincerity went to the front and didn’t look back en route to a 1:58.1 triumph in the $8,300 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3. Robert Shepherd rated her through panels of :28.4, :59.2 and 1:28.2 before using a :29.4 closing quarter to win by 2-3/4 lengths over Katherine B. Akissfromtheart took home the show dough.
The even-money favourite won for the seventh time this season for owner/trainer/breeder William Hamm of West Lorne, ON. The 31-time winner surpassed $200,000 in career earnings with the victory.
Newbie shot to the top and couldn’t be caught in the $7,500 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3. Nick Steward launched the gelding off the gate and had the field chasing him and the Ian Hyatt trainee through fractions of :27.1, :56.2 and 1:25.4. A :29-second kicker earned the pacer the win by 2-1/2 lengths over Rock N Roll Legacy, with Tomitta Bayama taking home third prize.
Bet down to be the 3-2 choice, the three-year-old son of Always A Virgin-Nat A Tat Tat improved this year’s record to 8-5-6 from 33 starts. The career winner of $62,385 is owned by Larry Ainsworth of Petrolia, ON and William Boden of Vancouver, BC.
