Auciello Mares Sweep Preferreds
After Alimony and stablemate Drivingthedragon N finished one-two in Wednesday's $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Flamboro Downs while Miss Machqueen captured the $7,500 Preferred 3 giving trainer Carmen Auciello a sweep of the evening's featured events.
Driven by Jonathan Drury, favourite After Alimony ($4.40) tracked Pictonian Sareta from the pocket through fractions of :28.1, :57.2 and 1:26.2 and then went by in the passing lane for the Preferred 2 victory in 1:55.4. Drivingthedragon N rallied wide from the backfield to finish second, one length behind her barn buddy, with Travis Henry in the sulky. Pictonian Sareta finished third. The winning five-year-old Lis Mara mare, who also won her last race two weeks ago in the Preferred 3 class, is owned by Doug Bruce of Kitchener, Ont.
Three races earlier in this week's Preferred 3, Auciello's Miss Machqueen ($15) and Henry went first over from fourth approaching the half-mile mark to take the lead and then drew off by more than two lengths to win in 1:56.3. Favourite Insincerity followed for second and early leader Katherine B finished third.
