Speed Is King In Preferreds
Front-end wins were celebrated by Eat Me Up and Cluster Hanover in the set of $7,500 Preferred 3 contests Monday evening at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Eat Me Up overcame early interference to win in gate-to-wire fashion in the Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 for the team of driver Alfie Carroll and trainer Richard Moreau. Sent off as the odds-on favourite, the mare led the group through fractions of :28.4, :59.3 and 1:29 before cranking out :29-second closing speed to win by three lengths over Zip Car in 1:58. Haute Couture took home third prize.
Annalisa Klunowski of Toronto, ON and 9099 3833 Quebec Inc of Sorel-Tracy, QC own the six-year-old daughter of Mach Three-Presidentialintern. That’s back-to-back wins for the 22-time winner who pushed her lifetime earnings to $416,879 with the victory.
Cluster Hanover claimed a 1:55.2 triumph in the Horses & Geldings Preferred 3 for driver Scott Coulter and trainer Barry Treen. Coulter cut out fractions of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:26.1 with his charge before using a :29.1 kicker to seal the deal by three-quarters of a length over Kinmundys Striker. Ufdragons Rocket rallied from far back to finish third.
Sent off as the 2-1 second choice in the wagering, the four-year-old son of Badlands Hanover-Clouding Over posted the victory for owners Tammy Lynn Turner of Ingersoll, ON and Jeff Elchuk of Surrey, BC. It was the eighth win of the season and the 12th lifetime tally for the career winner of $188,981.
