Cheverie Celebrates 2,500th Career Win
He did it. Driver Walter Cheverie earned his 2,500th career win taking the Friday night feature aboard Likely To Win at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Cheverie vacated the two-hole en route to the opening quarter to put the Adam Merner trainee on the point and flashed through fractions of :28.2, :58.4 and 1:29 before battling all the way to wire to win by a nose over Tempo Seelster (Vince Poulton) and Van Zant (Ron Matheson). The time of mile was 1:59.4.
Likely To Win is owned by Blenise Young and Lester Campbell of Nova Scotia and Jeffery Campbell of Alberta.
The veteran driver recorded his first lifetime win in 1984 and notched his 1,000th win in 1999 at Truro Raceway.
Jason Hughes and Gary Chappell recorded driving doubles.
