Island Breeders Finals Set For Saturday
The curtain will fall on the stakes season after divisions of the Island Breeders Finals take the track Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
First-race post time for the card is 12:30 p.m.
There are several anticipated showdowns on the card, including stable stars KD Overdrive and Jackson K Down going head to head in the two-year-old colt division with $11,000 on the line. Trainer Steve Mason had to make some decisions on drivers since his regular pilot Gilles Barrieau has moved to the United States. Mason will handle KD Overdrive from Post 6 while Marc Campbell has received the assignment on Jackson K Down who is just coming off a victory in the $31,400 Maritime Breeders final last week in Truro, NS. Brandons Glory (to be driven by Mark Haig) and Howmacsblackjack (Earl Smith) who completed the triactor in that match-up, get to rally from the inside for this start.
Dustylane MsVickie (Campbell) has drawn the rail in the three-year-old division. The filly has been very sharp and is gunning for her seventh victory of the campaign. Elm Grove Joanette (Kenny Arsenault) and Three Pink Bows (Danny Romo) are also favourites on the morning line.
The three-year-old colts will enter the stage for Race 14 with Proven Desire (Campbell) and Dixieland Band (Walter Cheverie) ready to battle it out for the top prize. These two have been making headlines all season and with Proven Desire drawing inside.
In other action, Tyne Valley has the rail in the three-year-old trot fillies while two-year-old trotter Glencove Zani goes for his fifth in a row when veteran driver Len McGuigan puts him on the gate in Race 5. Clic K is the top gun in the Halloween Pace in Race 13.

CHEVERIE AND HUGHES BATTLE FOR TOP SPOT AT SUMMERSIDE
The battle for top driver will continue on Sunday at Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway. The 13-race program will get underway with a new first-race post time of 12:30 p.m.
Walter Cheverie heads into the afternoon with 39 wins while Jason Hughes is tied with Gilles Barrieau at 34. Barrieau won’t be adding any more to his win total after making the move to Florida this week. Marc Campbell is still in the mix at 33 victories. Cheverie is booked on 10 horses, Hughes has 11 assignments and Campbell has eight drives. There are only two cards remaining at the legendary Prince County oval. Hughes has a lock on the top trainer with 21 scores next to Earl Watts with 11.
Acton O So Royal has been perfect in his last three starts for the team of driver Gary Chappell, trainer Colleen Chappell and owner Wayne Pike, Winsloe. The six year-old son of Royal Mattjesty will attempt his four in a row but meets heavy weights Nogreatmischief, who has been clocked in the 1:57.1 range, and Painted Desert (Mark Bradley), a fourth place finisher with a dazzling 1:56.1 chart line. The line-up also includes Eagle Jolt (Campbell), Blu Meadow Willie (Robert MacInnis), Outside The Wire (Brian MacPhee), J Rs Hurricane (Ken Murphy) and Motorino (Terry Gallant).
The ultra-consistent Bowyer Hanover is the morning line favourite in the back-up class for owner Ivan MacMillan, O’Leary, PE.
