Cabertoss Wins Rideau Feature
Cabertoss tracked favourite Unabating's cover then trotted by that rival in the stretch to take this week's $6,950 Winners Over Handicap on Sunday night at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Rocky Boy had forged to the front from post seven and led the field through opening panels of :28 and :58 before favourite Unabating, parked from post eight second over, circled three-wide when his cover stalled and charged up to challenge at the third quarter mark in 1:28.4. Unabating quickly cleared to command, with Cabertoss, who copied his backstretch brush, chasing him around the final turn. With a strong stretch rally, Cabertoss overtook Unabating down the lane and drew one and a half lengths clear to win in 1:58.4 over the 'good' track surface. Unabating stayed for second while Michelangelo edged out Heres The Magic and Will To Do in a tight race for third-place over six lengths behind.
Cabertoss paid $9 to win as the 7-2 third choice. The homebred son of Muscle Mass is owned and trained by Mountain, Ont. horseman William Murray Jr. He earned the sixth win of his five-year-old campaign, with Gord Brown in the sulky.
