Delaware's Finest Set To Battle

More than $500,000 in purses will be up for grabs on the penultimate Harrington Raceway program of the season on Wednesday, October 21, which will showcase some of Delaware’s top-bred horses.

Four $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) final events for two-year-olds will be the centerpiece of a 13-race program, accompanied by four $20,000 consolation events and three $20,000 Open events for older horses.

A $5,000 guaranteed pool pick four (races 3-6) will be offered in conjunction with the United States Trotting Association’s strategic wagering initiative. It will include a stakes laden sequence with two DSBF finals and a pair of Open events to fulfill the four races.

The first DSBF final is for two-year-old fillies featuring Garnet O’Marrow’s Seboomook Up Town (5/2, Allan Davis), who swept her eliminations and drew the coveted rail. The Wayne Givens-trainee will face a deep field however which will kick off the pick four and includes fellow elimination winners Joann Looney-King’s Cougar Creek (4-1, Victor Kirby), Andrew Glassmeyer’s Eternal Ring (6-1, Jon Roberts), Carter Racing Stable’s Fiftyshadesofrusty (4-1, Corey Callahan), KDK Standardbreds’ Apple Bottom Jeans (3/1, Montrell Teague) and Roland Hall and Bryan Truitt Jr.’s Rowdy Patti (30-1, Bryan Truitt).

The third leg of the pick four sequence will feature the pacing colts and geldings, another competitive field with five different elimination winners. Only Willard Hall and Brian Wright’s Sizz Matty (Allan Davis) successfully won both of his eliminations, but drew post 8. Other elimination winners include Carter Racing Stable’s Rusty Carter (7/2, Corey Callahan), Pam Wagner’s Canthelpbutwin (9/2, Victor Kirby), Dorothy Conner and Chris Conner’s Hail To The Master (5/2, Art Stafford Jr.) and Winbak Farm’s All Artist (3/1, George Dennis).

Owner Jane Dunavant and trainer/driver Carlo Poliseno will look to build on a wildly successful round of eliminations when they won three of the four, as they send out three entries, all of which won last week, in the trotting finals. Elton J (5/2, Poliseno) is the morning line second choice in the colt and geldings final (8th race) behind the lone horse to sweep his eliminations, Syl King Jr.’s Chipoffthewall (7/5, Tony Morgan). Ed Goans’ Samuel J (7/1, Dan Rawlings) is the only other elimination winner in the field.

The filly trotting final is the 10th race on the program and marks the return of track record holder Cicadas Song (7/5, Ross Wolfenden), who scorched the half-mile oval for a 1:59.2 win last week. Winbak Farm’s Triple Bottom Line (2-1, Kirby), who was second to Cicadas Song last week after winning her elimination on October 7, appears to be the biggest competition. Devlin (7/1, Poliseno) is not to be overlooked for the hot connections of Dunavant and Poliseno as the only other elimination winner in the field.
