Aminorex Media Conference Pending
In a release issued today by the Ontario Harness Horse Association, it has been announced that OHHA will be holding an upcoming media conference to discuss the controversial subject.
On Friday, September 14, OHHA president Jim Whelan and senior OHHA staff met with 10 of the 11 Ontario trainers that are involved in the Aminorex situation (trainers Kelly Sheppard, Jeff Nichol, Anthony Montini, Jeff Gillis, Lynn Privett, Ken Duncan, Sandra Houghton, Anthony Haughan, Ben Wallace and Kevin O'Reilly all attending the meeting.
Some of the issues that were discussed in the meeting included frustration over the length of time that the Ontario Racing Commission investigation has taken, including lengthy legal efforts. The release also says that trainers are frustrated with a lack of proper justice in the situation, seeing that there was/is past knowledge in regard to Aminorex testing in other North American racing jurisdictions.
Also included in the trainers' concerns is the question of why they continue to be prosecuted while other jurisdictions, including Ohio and Pennsylvania, have seen fit to withdraw charges given the scientific knowledge available regarding the apparent source of Aminorex.
