Joe Gorajec Fired In Indiana
This past weekend, the Indiana Horse Racing Commission voted to remove its executive director, Joe Gorajec. According to a report, the commissioners’ decision was based, at least in part, because Gorajec was too focused on enforcing regulations.
A report this past Friday by the Indianapolis Business Journal forecasted Gorjec’s firing. The article cited IHRC Chairman Thomas Weatherwax as saying that the move was coming because commissioners were frustrated with Gorajec for being too focused on enforcing regulations and not focused enough on marketing and promoting horse racing within the state. The article also quoted Weatherwax as saying, “We’re not going to do one thing to take away our integrity in this industry.”
On Sunday, the Indianapolis Business Journal ran a follow-up story which confirmed Gorajec’s dismissal.
“We’re at a crossroads,” Weatherwax told the Indianapolis Business Journal. “It just takes a little different attitude to take it to the next level. We’re going to be doing more to promote and market our business and get more people involved. Everything I’m telling you is economic development.”
