Friday’s International Stallion Stakes Set
The Friday afternoon (October 9) live program at the Red Mile has attracted three divisions for the $224,100 International Stallion Stakes (ISS) for two-year-old filly pacers and four divisions for the $272,000 ISS for two-year-old colt and gelding pacers.
The opening freshmen filly ISS split features the return of the undefeated Pure Country, who is trained by Jimmy Takter and owned by Diamond Creek Racing. Pure Country is a winner of seven starts and $342,618 in purses. On October 2 she won an $81,000 division of the Bluegrass over a ‘sloppy track’ in 1:56.1 as the 1-9 favourite. Pure Country is by Somebeachsomewhere and is out of the Western Hanover mare Western Montana. Pure Country will start from Post 6 against Bluegrass starters Skinny Dipper, Upside Surprise, Mother Of Art, and Hug A Dragoness.
Call Me Queen Be, who has earned $250,136 in purses this season, highlights the second split. By Somebeachsomewhere and out of the Western Terror mare Preppy Party Girl, Call Me Queen Be finished third as the 1-5 favourite in a $81,000 division of the Bluegrass on Oct. 2. Owned by Let It Ride Stables Inc. and Dana Parham, Call Me Queen Be has won four races in seven outings this season. The Nancy Johansson-trained JK Fannie will be matching up with Call Me Queen Be once again. JK Fannie finished third to the Ross Croghan-trained Call Me Queen Be in a $127,150 division of the Kentuckiana at Hoosier Park on September 26. Bluegrass starters Kiss Me Onthebeach, Wine Snob, East Side Hanover, and Eloquent Grace also draw into the division.
The final division of the ISS filly pace has gathered Bluegrass division winner Shezarealdeal and Shes A Great Lady runner-up Darlinonthebeach. Shezarealdeal, who was sent off the 1-5 favourite in her Bluegrass division, went on to win her fourth race in what was her eighth start (she recorded a 1:56.4 mile over the slop). Darlinonthebeach enter the race with one win from seven starts and earnings of $167,041. She was recently second in a $125,900 division of the Kentuckiana Stakes, which followed her second-place finish in the $341,250 Shes A Great Lady to L A Delight.
The first of a quartet brings back Bluegrass starters Beach Ogre, Im Some Graduate, Mr Right Hanover, and Ideal Rocky. In the Bluegrass, Im Some Graduate and Ideal Rocky were sent off the 4-5 and 8-5 favourites, respectively (they finished fourth and third, respectively). Im Some Graduate, a colt by Somebeachsomewhere that is out of the Western Hanover mare Western Graduate, has won four races from six starts and has banked $109,927 in purses for owner John Cancelliere. Ideal Rocky, a Rocknroll Hanover-Eternitys Delight colt, has won four races from 10 starts and has earned $167,151. He is owned by William Wiswell, Jean Goehlen, and Eugene Schick.
Big Top Hanover and Owen Hanover, both of whom will start off of second-place efforts in October 3 Bluegrass action, will compete in the second division. Big Top Hanover, who is conditioned by Ron Burke for the interests of Jt45 and Burke Racing Stables LLC, has won one race from nine starts this year. The son of Western Ideal, who is out of the Art Major mare Blind Ambition, has earned $121,621. Owen Hanover, who is by Cams Card Shark and out of On Her Way, is owned by Jerry Clark and Tammy Crescenze. The winner of two races from 10 starts has earned $69,099 in purses and is conditioned by Noel Daley.
Tony Alagna's American Passport, who won a division of the Bluegrass in 1:56.1, will face world record holder Spider Man Hanover in the third round of the ISS. Spider Man Hanover won a $23,100 division of the Standardbred at Delaware, Ohio in a world-record time of 1:51.4, which lowered the previous mark of 1:52.2, which was held by On Golden Ponder and Hes Watching. Spider Man Hanover is from the Brian Brown barn. Spider Man Hanover is a Western Ideal colt that is out of the Art Major mare Stolly Up Bluechip. He has won four of his seven starts and has earned $189,300 in purses. American Passport, an American Ideal colt out of Star Of The Show, competes for the interests of Brittany Farms, Riverview Racing, Alagna Racing, and Jodi Siammis. He has won two of his eight starts this year and has banked $156,246.
The last ISS split features Bluegrass division winner Racing Hill and New York Sire Stakes champion Travel Playlist, that latter of which is undefeated in five starts. Travel Playlist is a colt by Art Major that is out of the Rocknroll Hanover mare Village Madonna. He has earned $234,695 in his campaign. Racing Hill, a winner of three of his seven starts, races for owner Tom Hill and trainer Tony Alagna. The colt by Roll With Joe-Chasing Ideals has earned $83,576 this year.
The 10-race card has a first-race post time of 1 p.m.
