Grand Slam For Comback Matt
The Sunday card at Leamington Raceway saw another productive day for the team of Rob Sparling, Jr. and Cathy Gaudreau, highlighted by the fourth straight score with Comback Matt.
The son of Royal Mattjesty-Returning Tosender came from off the pace to win going away in 2:01.3 for owner James Napper of Bothwell, ON.
"If I had to pick a turning point for this horse, it had to come back on September 12 at Sarnia," said Gaudreau in the paddock following the race. "In that race Tyler Borth was up for the first time when Rob (Sparling, Jr.) was not available, and won in :57. I asked Tyler how he was able to win, and he said that he felt this horse was a 'grinder', and needed to be out and going all the time not just trying to trip out. When I passed that info on to Rob, the new tact continued to prove the secret to the successful way to race and win with this horse."
Comback Matt paid $5.10 to win.
Gaudreau’s other win (with Sparling, Jr.) came with Squeeze This ($6.10) for Napper and Peter Verstraete of Bothwell, ON in 2:01.2
There are three Sundays remaining in the 2015 meet at Leamington. Post time is 1:30 p.m.
The first annual wiener dog race was won by Oscar D owned by Laura Dicarlo in a time of 3.2 seconds.
