Hawkins Trainees Perfect At Inverness
Trainer Heather Hawkins enjoyed a perfect day at the track, with all three of her Sunday starters turning in winning efforts in rein to John Kennedy during the eight-race card at Inverness Raceway.
Shanghai Tiger ($6.30) and Valid Appeal ($12.90) were back-to-back winners in races two and three, and Private Practice ($4.20) later won the fifth race for Hawkins, propelling her to the top of the local leaderboard. The Hawkins stable has won 12 races this season at Inverness and now holds a two-win lead over Redmond Doucet, Keelan MacDonald and Don Beaton in the trainer standings.
The afternoon's featured $1,500 Winners Over Pace was won by Anthony Beaton's Schooner ($4.70), who prevailed in front-end fashion by three-quarters of a length over Surrealist in 1:59.2. Alex MacQuarrie was in the sulky for the victory.
