Two-year-old trotters were in the spotlight Thursday’s evening at the Charlottetown Driving Park as the half-mile oval hosted a set of $10,600 divisions of the Blair Andrew Memorial.

High Bid kept his perfect record intact thanks to a dominant score in the first division for driver Walter Cheverie. The gelding got away second and remained there through first-half fractions of :31 and 1:02.3. He shot to the top in the backstretch and had the field chasing him to the three-quarter pole in 1:34.3. A :30.1 closing quarter was more than enough for him to win by 6-3/4 lengths over Unsinkableone in 2:04.4. Third prize went to Silverhill Flame.

Sent off as the 1-9 favourite, the son of Neal-Highly Organized won for the eighth time in as many tries for owner/trainer Joey Smallwood of Stratford, PE. It was a new lifetime mark for the career winner of $24,320.

B J Classic lost his maiden status thanks to a narrow score in the second division. Brian MacPhee hustled the gelding to the lead from Post 5 and they never looked back. The youngster led through fractions of :30.3, 1:02.4 and 1:33.4 before using a :31.1 kicker to win by a nose over Craigh Na Dun in 2:05. Third prize went to Da Master.

Bred, owned and trained by Bert Honkoop of Montague, PE, B J Classic improved his rookie record to 1-1-0 from six starts with the win. He’s stashed away more than $7,000 in the process.
