Following last weekend's cancellations, the Manitoba Sires Stakes finals were contested at Morris on Saturday, Sept. 12.

Linda and Roland Fontaine's Hillybilly Broke scored a maiden-breaking victory in the $10,486 final of the Golden Boy Stake for Manitoba-sired sophomore pacing colts. After being shuffled to last, Hillybilly Broke came charging home to circle the five-horse field and defeat pacesetter Cor Dees Rocket by half a length in 2:10.2 over "good" track conditions. Kirk Rogers trains and drives the winning Mattarocket gelding, who was making his ninth start of the season. First over challenger Marvtherat finished three and a half lengths behind in third and made it a 2-3 finish for trainer/owner Cory Manning.

The $8,996 final of the Silk Lace was a match race between Timely Grace and Heartland Hi Socks with the former sophomore filly going wire-to-wire in 2:08.1. Blake Piwniuk drove Timely Grace in the non-wagering stake for trainer Trevor Williams and co-owner Michael Williams. The One Big Buster filly defeated Heartland Hi Socks by three and a half lengths and notched her third win in 10 seasonal starts.

The $3,120 final of The Juvenile for two-year-olds pitted a pair of Marc Fillion-trained Armbro Baylor colts against one another. Baylor Out, driven by Fillion himself, ran away from his stablemate Als Happy Baylor in the non-betting race to post a 35-length victory in 2:05.3. Baylor Out, who also beat Als Happy Baylor in the Kindergarten Stake match race, now has three consecutive wins from five career starts.

Hillybilly Broke and Baylor Out both set new divisional track records.

In other action, Jayne Kornelsen's six-year-old pacer Senga Waterford and trainer/driver Tyler Grundy won the $2,900 Preferred in 2:04 by five lengths over Cheyenne Dusk and Youshouldseemenow.
