Quebec-Bred Finals Sunday At 3R
The richest card of harness racing in the province of Quebec this year will take place Sunday (September 6) at the Hippodrome 3R, as the $500,000 finals of the Quebec-Bred Series for two and three-year-old trotters and pacers are on tap.
The 13-race program will feature eight of the finals. The card will kick off with a 1:30 p.m. first-race post time. The four two-year-old finals each carry a $55,000 purse, while the four three-year-old finals will each be raced for $65,000. The finals culminate three weeks of preliminary races, as the top eight pointer earners from the prelims will be featured in the finals.
Trainer Dany Fontaine will lead the way in the finals with seven horses from his stable, and four of them are the prohibitive favourites in their respective divisions. Fontaine’s race favourites include Mr Mach Jimmy, Mach On The Beach, Miss Babe Delight and National Trace.
Owner Gaetan Bono of Montreal owns six of the seven horses trained by Fontaine, and a close second is the Hudson Standardbred Stable of Hudson, QC, which has five entered in the finals.
Two full brothers Seeyou Men (three years old ) and Wildwild Men (two years old), both of whom are by Muscle Mass and from the Angus Hall mare Seeyouinthecircle, head their respective trot finals for trainer Isabelle Darveau.
The $55,000 two-year-old trotting filly final is the only race that is not open for betting. It will be held between Race 5 and Race 6 on Sunday as a non-wagering event.
Top drivers Sylvain Filion, Mario Baillargeon and Simon Allard are coming to compete in the finals and will face off against the 3R’s best reinsmen, Denis St. Pierre, Pascal Berube, Mario Charron and Stephane Brosseau.
“This will be a great day of racing,” said Vincent Trudel, the general manager of Hippodrome 3R. “It shows that our Quebec-bred program is very viable with nearly $750,000 in total purses this year for two, three and four-year-olds in the series.”
