Gate Gaffe Results In ‘No Contest’
A mechanical problem with the starting gate resulted in the ORC Judges declaring Thursday’s third race at Rideau Carleton Raceway a ‘No Contest.’
The gate was in the process of releasing the field when it appeared to stall and then slow down. The wings appeared to close partially before re-opening and causing a number of drivers to simply pull up their horses.
No horses or drivers were injured in the mishap, but the race was declared a ‘No Contest’ due to the fact that so many horses were impeded by the starting gate malfunction.
