Yonkers Trot, Messenger Drawn
Two horses with Triple Crown aspirations – Pinkman and Dealt A Winner – are going to have to work for their respective second jewels Saturday night (September 5) at Yonkers Raceway, as the $500,000 Yonkers Trot and $500,000 Messenger Stakes are all set to be contested.
Post time for the 13-race card will be 7:10 p.m. The 61st Yonkers Trot has been carded as the sixth race on the program and holds an approximate post time of 9 p.m. The Messenger has been slotted in as Race 8 on the program and holds an approximate post time of 9:40 p.m.
Hambletonian champion Pinkman has drawn Post 7 in the Yonkers Trot. Yannick Gingras will drive for trainer Jimmy Takter. Gingras is looking for his first Yonkers Trot victory, while Takter, who for years couldn’t win this race, now seemingly can’t lose it. He trained last year’s winner (Nuncio), his fourth Yonkers Trot win the past six editions.
Pinkman, a three-year-old Explosive Matter gelding, was second in his elimination race a week ago.
Pinkman’s chief combatant, defending New York Sire Stakes champion Crazy Wow, landed right inside at Post 6. Crazy Wow defeated Pinkman by a length a week ago in 1:55.4. George Brennan has gotten the assignment in the finale for trainer Ron Burke, whose other entrant, Habitat (PP2, Brian Sears) won last week’s second elim (1:55.3) with Gingras doing the honours.
