Keystone Wyatt Repeats For Knapp
Keystone Wyatt cruised wire-to-wire on Sunday night at Rideau Carleton Raceway, earning his second straight win in the co-featured $6,500 Winners Over Handicap Trot for his new connections.
The win was actually his third in a row, but second consecutive in the top class racing from the Chelsea Knapp stable for new owners 2099551 Ontario Inc., John MacMillan and Kathy Moulton.
Driven by Ted McDonald, 2-5 favourite Keystone Wyatt left from post four and carved out fractions of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:27.3 en route to the 1:56.3 triumph. The six-year-old gelding was followed by Imminent Response, who trailed two and three-quarter lengths behind. Unabating went wide at the third quarter mark around stalled cover and finished four lengths back in third.
The son of Cantab Hall now has five wins, 10 seconds and three third-place finishes in 31 starts this year, with over $40,000 in earnings. His nine and a half length win over Imminent Response last weekend was a season's best, clocked in 1:54.4.
Slight Touch won the matching pacing division and has now posted back-to-back 1:54.1 victories at Rideau with Clarke Steacy driving for trainer Matthew McDonald and owner Mark Lesaux. The five-year-old Badlands Hanover gelding wore down slight favourite Web Cam, who had led through panels of :26.4, :56 and 1:24.3, and then Scotty Mach N got by the bettor's choice late to take second-place.
