If there were any questions whether Silent Swing was race-tight heading into his 2009 campaign, the Northern Luck gelding answered them in full this morning

during the qualifying session at Mohawk Racetrack.

Contesting Race 8, the last dash on the card, the seven-year-old millionaire left with driver Paul MacDonell from Post 9. The gelding was solid in his second qualifier of the year, as he got the job done in wire-to-wire fashion. The 2007 Gold Cup and Saucer winner cut the fractions in :27.2, :56.4 and 1:24.2. Coming home with a :26.4 final panel, Silent Swing threw up a whopping 15-length margin of victory for trainer Jean Louis Arsenault in 1:51.1.

After three-year-old Amigo Hall filly Daylon Mystique trotted to a 1:58.2 open-length victory in Race 1, O'Brien Award winner St Lads Popcorn put in her first charted mile of the 2009 season.

St Lads Popcorn left from Post 3 and was charted seventh throughout the mile, eventually finishing sixth, covering her mile in 1:57.2 for driver Jason Brewer and trainer Jack Darling. St Lads Popcorn won 12 of 15 starts at two and banked over $602,000. Three-year-old Grinfromeartoear filly Cheap Motel posted a three-quarter-length victory in 1:55.1 for driver Rick Zeron and trainer Tracy Brainard.

Three-year-old Cantab Hall colt Cantabs Pride won Race 3 for driver Chris Christoforou, as the Ira Fisher pupil trotted to a one and a half-length victory in 1:58.1. The mile was the colt's third qualifier of the year.

Jack Darling student Carnivore, rated the 22-1 eighth choice in Trot Magazine's 2009 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book, captured Race 4, putting in a wire-to-wire performance from Post 6. With Paul MacDonell in the bike, the Real Desire colt cut the fractions in :27.4, :57 and 1:26.1 before motoring home in 28 seconds for the 1:54.1 victory. The margin of victory was two and a half lengths.

Four-year-old Shipps Speed gelding Ja El Pronto won Race 5 courtesy of a 2:01.3 mile and then made way for more 'Cup' eligibles in Race 6.

A 40-1 selection in Trot's spring book, the Tony O'Sullivan-trained Millionaire Cam put in a wire-to-wire effort in Race 6 and posted a seven-length victory in 1:53.2 for driver Jody Jamieson. The mile was Millionaire Cam's second qualifier of the year. Stonebridge Terror, a 60-1 spring book colt trained by Jack Darling, finished second in the mile, pacing in 1:54.4. Mike Saftic was in the bike for what was second qualifier of the year for the son of Western Terror. Manhattan Bluechip (90-1 in spring book) finished fifth, while Iamperfectright (150-1 in spring book) finished sixth.

Race 7 saw pilot Mario Baillargeon make his return from a broken leg and team up with solid Open-level trotter Reve D Amerik in Race 7. The seven-year-old Fill V gelding took command of his mile early and trotted to a three and a half-length victory in 1:57.3.
