Trotters Star In Maple Leaf Divisions
Red Shores Summerside hosted two $5,200 divisions of the Maple Leaf Trot on Wednesday night with three-year-old filly Tyne Valley and colt Suicide Shift taking turns in the spotlight.
Tyne Valley, under the command of Kenny Arsenault, held off a fast-closing Paymenowpaymelater to claim the first event in 2:02. The Northern Bailey filly is trained by Bill Roloson for his co-owners Scott Roloson and Kristi Pickering. Sweetwater Rayne was third.
Suicide Shift and driver Steven Shepherd won the colt division of the Maple Leaf Trot in 2:02.4. The PJs Nabby colt is owned by Margo Fisher and trainer Harold Shepherd. B J Matador was second, with Windemere Ty third.
The first ever Mayor’s Challenge was also held on the program. Mayor Bill Martin of Summerside and driver Tyler Desroches won the race with Windemere Eric in 2:12 over a rain-soaked track. Cool One was second with Mayor Clifford Lee of Charlottetown on board with driver Jody Hennessey while Woodmere No Fool finished third for Garth Cole and the deputy Mayor of Kensingston Rodney Mann.
