One Double-Digit Winner At Inverness
Inverness Raceway held a nine-dash program of live harness racing on Sunday, August 23, and horses that received support on the tote board proved to be successful. Only one of the horses that was victorious during the program returned a double digit win mutuel, and it did so for trainer/driver Redmond Doucet, who had a productive day at the office.
The double-digit winner in question was Salute, a 10-year-old Western Ideal gelding that was making the 232nd start of his career. Doucet trains and drives the bay for the Ruth Shannon Stable of Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia.
Salute struck in Race 9, which was the final contest on the card. The veteran pacer appeared to shrug off his Post 8 start. Doucet got away third with his mount and was first up through the middle half of the dash. The duo surged past the tempo setter in the vicinity of the three quarters of a mile pole and had opened up a four-length lead by the time they lead the field to the stretch.
Doucet and Salute went on to win the $1,075 contest by three lengths. They froze the final timer in 2:00.1. Salute returned $11.70 on a $2 win wager.
The win was one of four driving victories that Doucet recorded during the program.
