After winning his elimination four races prior, Diggin A Trench went right back out and won the $3,268 final of the Manitoba Great Western Fair Stake for three-year-olds on Saturday at Morris.

Driven by Michel Rey, Diggin A Trench went wire-to-wire in a career-best 2:04 over the "good" track with filly Rocket To The Top and Don Howlett following four and a half lengths behind to complete a 1-2 finish in the final for trainer Richard Rey. Third-prize went to driver Blake Piwniuk and filly Timely Grace, who drew in off the Also Eligible list following a fifth-place finish in the elimination round and the scratch of Wits N Wagers. Redonkulous, the other elimination winner, finished back in fourth after a first-over journey in rein to Roland Rey.

Diggin A Trench took one-fifth of a second off his mark that he had taken in last weekend's MSSBA Futurity at Killarney. The homebred Armbro Trench colt is now five-for-six in his debut season with earnings of $11,046 for Richard and Janet Rey.

Diggin A Trench had won his $2,701 elimination in 2:07.1 by three and a half lengths over Cor Dees Rocket and Gotta Go Jo, with Royal Ralph finishing fourth to make the final as well. Redonkulous won the following elimination in 2:06.3 by one length over Rocket To The Top with Als Friday Player third and Wits N Wagers back in fourth.

In Preferred action, Red Star Tiger front-stepped his way to a 2:00.3 triumph with Howlett in the sulky for trainer Trevor Williams and co-owner Michael Williams. The win was his third in a row on the Manitoba fair circuit.
