Krispy Apple Matches Yonkers Record
They finally solved Cinamony (George Brennan) Friday night, as it was 17-10 favourite Krispy Apple (Jason Bartlett, $5.40) winning Yonkers Raceway’s $48,000 Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace.
With that lass going for her seventh consecutive win since hitting town, she negotiated an assigned eight-hole to make the lead. The second choice took a one and three-quarter length lead into the lane, but this was the first time locally she couldn’t close the sale.
Passed outside by a pocket-sitting (from post position No. 7) Krispy Apple and inside by Skippin By (Eric Carlson), it was the former getting the latter by a neck in 1:51.3. That effort matched the track record for aged mares (Rocklamation, Venus Delight and Cinamony twice).
Cinamony settled for third, beaten three-quarters of a length, with Handsoffmycupcake (Scott Zeron) and For The Ladies N (Brian Sears) rounding out the payees.
For Krispy Apple, a seven-year-old daughter of Western Ideal trained by Jeffrey Bamond Jr. for co-owners Bamond Racing and Joseph Davino, it was her seventh win in 16 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $71, with the triple returning $336.50.
