Hudon Celebrates 4,000th Win
New York Nightmare left little doubt he was much the best in his Thursday evening assignment at Mohawk Racetrack, and that was music to the ears of driver Phil Hudon who celebrated a milestone score in the process.
Hudon nabbed the 4,000th win of this career behind the Anthony Montini trainee, who matched his lifetime mark of 1:52.1 in the $17,000 conditioned event.
It was the 73rd win of the 2015 campaigner for the Guelph, ON horseman who will now zero in on joining the $50-million club. To date, he’s managed to rack up more than $48.5 million in lifetime earnings.
Thursday’s card also featured the second leg of the Define The World Series for two-year-old trotters. A group of seven lined up in the lone division, and for the second straight week a Brad Maxwell trainee came away victorious.
Deep Impact got the job done in maiden-breaking fashion for Hall of Fame reinsman Steve Condren in 1:57.1. The gelding got away fourth before blasting to the lead in the second quarter of the $12,000 contest. He hit the half in :59.3 and was battling with Dancers Touch to the three-quarter pole in 1:29.1 before using a :27.4 closing panel to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Lean Hanover. The winner’s stablemate, Bucketlist Hanover, was third.
The son of Donato Hanover-Glide Power improved his record to 1-1-0 from just two trips to the track. The $65,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale is owned by Maxwell and partners, Van Camp Trotting Corp, Timothy Murray and Doug Millard. The trotter has banked $9,000 to date.
