Pictonian Edge Earns First Stakes Win
Pictonian Edge scored a maiden-breaking victory in the $10,900 Nova Scotia Stakes for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings, defeating favourite T M Major Storm in his eighth career start on Saturday at Northside Downs.
Advancing from fifth-place, Pictonian Edge took over the lead from insider T M Major Storm past the half-mile mark and prevailed by three-quarters of a length over that rival in 2:00.4, with Ultimatelyhandsome recovering from an early miscue to finish third.
John Gerard Kennedy catch-drove the Western Paradise gelding for trainer Kevin MacLean and P.E.I. owners Reginald MacPherson, David Mackenzie, and Aaron Mackenzie.
While the win was his first, Pictionian Edge has hit the board in seven of his eight stakes starts during his debut season and has earned $12,154 in purses.
This week's $1,200 Winners Over Pace went to Boknows Momngranny, a back-to-back winner for trainer George Della Valle and owner Thomas Hawco Jr. Greg Sparling steered the eight-year-old Bo Knows Jate gelding to the 1:56.4 triumph over Junebugs Baby.
