Island Trotting Series Hits Summerside
The best trotters on the East Coast roll into Red Shores Summerside on Sunday for the Island Trotting Series.
The historic Prince County oval is no stranger to track record holders with three making an appearance in the Island Trotting Series presented by PEI Harness Racing Industry Association.
Frill Seeker, owned by Ebbsfleet Stables of Stratford, Ont., comes off the rail in the first split for driver Kenny Arsenault. The seven-year-old is already in the record books and if he minds his business he could be tough to beat...but it won’t be easy. There are other names in this showdown that are quite familiar with history including Zip The Lip, who makes his first appearance since June 27th. Brian MacPhee is back in the bike to drive for trainer Donald Sweet. Also lining up are Caliban Hanover (Ron Gass), Holy Molie Maggie (Gary Chappell) and the classy Neal (Brian Andrew).
Thunderaway wrote a new chapter last Saturday in Charlottetown when she recorded the fastest trot mile in Maritime history for aged mares stopping the timer in 1:57.3.
The new addition to the Foxyhall Racing Stable of Summerside will go up against Kennel Buddy (David Dowling), Weskey (Harold Shepherd), Pleasure Girls (Ronnie Gass), Osprey Impact (Paul Larrabee) and Howmacs Pride in the second division of the Island Trotting Series scheduled for post at 3:00 p.m.
In other action, Tammysmist is going for the grand-slam in race 9. The Elton Millar trainee has won her last three starts but faces her toughest assignment yet for owner Kenny Waite. The daughter of Western Maverick will be handled by Ken Murphy.
First race post time for Summerside is 1:00 p.m. To view the entries for Sunday's card, click the following link: Sunday Entries - Red Shores Summerside.
