Junebugs Baby Lowers Northside Record
Junebugs Baby returned to his regular stomping grounds at Northside Downs following a victory in Inverness' Johnny & Margaret Allan Ian Memorial last weekend and was a dominant 15-length winner in the feature event on Saturday afternoon.
With Carey Romeo Jr. catch-driving for trainer and co-owner Fraser Turnbull, Junebugs Baby paced the fastest mile of his life in 1:55.1 and lowered his own track record for aged pacing stallions by three-fifths of a second. The homebred son of Western Paradise and Carols June Bug was four-fifths of a second off the all-age track record, held by geldings Major Dundee and All Turain.
Junebugs Baby took the lead from post four in the $1,100 Winners Over Pace and cruised through fractions of :28, :57.4 and 1:26.1 before drawing away from his closest rivals in the field of eight, Thecolour Of Jewel and Schooner.
Fraser Turnbull and John Turnbull Jr. share ownership of the six-year-old pacer, who is four-for-six this season. He now boasts 33 wins in 68 starts lifetime and earnings of $84,075.
