Memorable Week For Henriksen
It’s been a good couple of weeks at Kawartha Downs for young horseman Dagfin Henriksen. Last Saturday, he was victorious with Tswalu, a colt he trains and drives, when Kawartha hosted their only Ontario Sires Stakes event of the season and tonight he scored his 100th driving victory.
The victory came when he guided Elegant Holiday to a come-from-behind 2:01.3 score in the fifth race. Henriksen, a native of Norway, also trains the winner, a three-year-old filly by Holiday Road owned by Murray Brethour, David Heffering and Matthew Harrison.
Henriksen is creeping up on the same number in lifetime training victories as tonight’s effort moves him to 84 wins on the training column.
Reg Gassien and Doug Hie both had a pair of victories on Saturday’s card. Gassien’s first effort came with his homebred Zambuca Gass, who recorded his second straight victory in race two, winning in 1:55.2. Gassien trains and owns the 11-year-old grey pacer, who has 35 wins lifetime for more than $319,000 in earnings.
Racing returns to Kawartha Downs next Saturday night at 7 p.m. for the track's annual Family Fun Night, which will feature all kinds of fun activities for kids and the young at heart.
