Vintage Babe Wins As She Pleases
First year sire Vintage Master has churned out some nice fillies in his first crop, and trainer Tony Alagna would be the first to admit it.
After all, he’s likely still on cloud nine following the OSS record-setting performance of 1:51.2 by the precocious Thatsoveryverynice at Mohawk Racetrack on July 6.
That filly’s stablemate, Vintage Babe, also came up with a winning debut in her first lifetime start during Tuesday’s 11-race card at the Campbellville, Ontario oval. In rein to Sylvain Filion, the Alagna trainee marched to the lead from Post 8 and led the group through very sensible fractions of :28, :58.1 and 1:27.2 before going into sprint mode. She wasn’t smooth as silk at points during the stretch drive, but it didn’t stop her from posting a :28.1 closing panel which was more than enough to win by half a length over Peg in 1:55.3.
The $25,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale is the first foal out of a former OSS winner named Bunkhouse Babe (1:58.2 - $130,602). Vintage Babe is owned by Alagna Racing LLC of Manalapan, NJ and Jodi Siamis of Marion, IA.
