Keystone Activator Wins Primo Spur Trot
Keystone Activator turned in a front-stepping score for driver Eric Ledford on Monday at The Meadows, as the five-eighths mile oval played host to the $30,200 final of the Primo Spur Trot for three-year-old colts and geldings.
The son of SJs Caviar, who left from post eight, parked past the opening quarter in :28.2 before powering to the top and laying down middle panels of :58.3 and 1:27.2. A :28.2 final frame was more than enough for the chestnut colt to seal the deal in a time of 1:55.4. Photoforwin sat the pocket trip throughout and finished second, with Gold N Chip Chip rounding out the top three in the nine-horse tilt.
Keystone Activator, who is trained by Jim Raymer for the Pennsylvania partnership of Tammie Raymer and Trillium Racing Stable, has picked up three wins in his first four starts of the 2009 campaign, and he has banked $32,725 along the way. The six-time winner now boasts earnings in excess of $114,000.
On a card full of records, it was not surprising that Martys Charm took one of his own, capturing the $25,000 Preferred Handicap Pace in 1:50 – the fastest ever at The Meadows by an older pacing gelding.
The time not only lowered the previous mark of 1:50.4, held jointly by Silverlinedpocket and Georgia Pacific, but it also was only two ticks off The Meadows all-age record.
