Lareau Sweeps Rideau Features
Driver Stephane Lareau swept the featured events -- a pair of $6,500 Winners Over Handicaps -- at Rideau Carleton Raceway among his six wins on Sunday night with trotter Maximuscle and pacer Web Cam.
Rebounding from his first loss of 2015 in last week's Winners Over event, Quebec-Bred Series champion Maximuscle turned in a 1:56.2 season's best victory in Sunday's co-featured trot.
Lareau hustled the four-year-old Angus Hall gelding off the gate from the outside post six to establish the lead by the first quarter mark, which was reached in :27-seconds. Clearing to command just past that point, Maximuscle then trotted through middle splits of :56.4 and 1:26.2 en route to the victory, with pocket-sitter Keystone Wyatt finishing three-quarters of a length back in second and Unabating closing off cover for third.
Trained by Maxime Velaye and owned by Ecurie Provoquante of Mirabel, Que., Maximuscle is now five-for-six on the season. He paid $2.50 to win as the 1-4 favourite.
Fresh off a 1:51.3 career-best victory at Mohawk Racetrack 10 days ago, Web Cam won the top pacing class in 1:54.1, also prevailing in front-end fashion.
Sent to the lead from post four, Web Cam carved out fractions of :28.1, :57.2 and 1:25 with 5-2 favourite Miramontman turning up the pressure from first over at the third quarter mark. However, Web Cam kept him at bay through the stretch and prevailed by half a length. Shipps Xpectancy finished third off a two-hole trip.
Richard Lareau of Waterdown, Ont. and Helene Allard of La Salle, Que. share ownership of the eight-year-old Astreos gelding, who was sent postward as the 3-1 third choice and paid $8.70 to win.
