André Boucher Passes

Visitation will be held Thursday at a funeral home in Longueuil, Que., for trainer-driver André Boucher, who passed away on July 3 at age 79.

Boucher won more than 2,700 races as a driver and was a prominent name at Blue Bonnets racetrack in Montreal in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1980, he won Blue Bonnets’ annual drivers’ tournament, the Blue Bonnets Cup, edging out the likes of Michel Lachance and Gilles Gendron.

“He was amazing with trotters...one of the best drivers and trainers of trotters,” said standardbred owner Roland Rocco, who had a good stakes horse with Boucher, PR Rocco, in 1979 and 1980.

Rocco said he last spoke to Boucher a couple of weeks ago at the Montreal General Hospital. “He was having trouble breathing. He’d been sick for about 10 years.”

Andre Boucher is survived by sisters Françoise and Denise and sons Alain, Denis and Yves.

The family will be on hand for visitation Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Residence Funéraire Curé-Polrier, 635 Curé Poirier W., Longueuil, Que.

Andre Boucher was a real gentleman and a great horseman. He drove many
times for me and helped me out with any problems with my horses. He was a driver who spoke to the horses through his hands, rarely used the whip. Very loyal
person a real friend. He is a great loss to me though I lost touch with him a while ago.
My sympathy to his family.
