Steward Stays Hot At Dresden
For the second consecutive Sunday card at Dresden Raceway and third time in the past week, driver Nick Steward put together a five-win performance.
Fresh off a Saturday night five-bagger at Hiawatha Horse Park, Steward opened Dresden's Sunday afternoon program with a victory aboard the David Dowling trainee Southwind Alice ($4.40).
Steward then reeled off three consecutive wins in races three through five aboard Allan Steeves' Gracies Harmony ($7), repeat winner Blackbird Singing ($3.60), who now has a combined 20 lengths on his rivals in his two latest Dresden wins for trainer Patrick Shepherd, and Rocket Art ($4) in his debut from the Kyle Fellows stable.
Steward later closed out the 10-race card with a 16-1 upset as Hall Oak prevailed by half a length for William Durbridge.
The 24-year-old London, Ont. reinsman finished no worse than fourth in his eight drives on the day.
Steward currently tops the driver standings at both Dresden Raceway and Hiawatha Horse Park. He has won 130 races in total this year and ranks among the top 10 drivers for wins in all of Canada.
Don Rankin Jr. and Brad Moore each had driving doubles on the card.
