Big Jim Colts Qualify Quickest
The two fastest miles from the Saturday morning session of qualifiers at Mohawk Racetrack came from promising-looking sons of Big Jim.
In the 10th qualifier, Brad Gray's Rejuvenate was not only the fastest qualifier of the morning session, he also won by the biggest margin of victory. With Paul MacDonell at the controls, the Dan Lagace trainee made his second qualifier a winning one with a gate-to-wire 14-length 1:55 score.
A $25,000 Lexington Selected purchase, Rejuvenate (Big Jim-Thistimeitsforreal) is from a sister to millionaire Masterofhisdomain and 55-time winner Little Steven.
Also flashing a fast turn of foot was Derecho, winning the second qualifier of his rookie season in a time of 1:55.4. Dustin Jones was at the controls for the wire-to-wire win, and he also trains and co-owns along with Ecuries Daniel Plouffe and Jean Dessureault of Quebec. The trio paid $60,000 for Derecho (Big Jim - Stonebridge Breeze), the first foal from a sister to Stonebridge Tonic and Stonebridge On Ice.
