Arsenault Pupil 'Light' Years The Best
Waterside Light and driver Kenny Arsenault made a three-high charge down the backstretch en route to the three-quarter pole and went on to claim the Thursday feature at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park in a sharp clocking of 1:56.1.
Waterside Light got away fifth and watched First Art Down and Perfect Escape take turns on the lead through first half fractions of :28 and :56.4. Waterside Light rushed to the lead at the three-quarter pole in 1:26.2, and he used a :29.4 closing quarter to win by 5-3/4 lengths over Tempo Seelster. Cabo Pan Lucas was third.
The gelding, who races for PEI partners Larry Chappell and Hilliard Graves, improved his 2015 record to 3-1-0 from nine starts with the win. He’s banked more than $40,000 to date.
C L La Rousse, with Jason Hughes in the bike, earned his fourth victory in-a-row taking the seventh race for trainer Reg Ferguson and his co-owner Paula MacPhee.
Hughes had a driving triple on the card while Mark Bradley connected for a driving double on the night.
Racing returns Saturday in Charlottetown at 6 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Summerside.
