Preferred Repeat For Brocks Fortune
Brocks Fortune went to the front and didn’t look back en route to a handy score in Monday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for horses and geldings at Grand River Raceway.
The John Cecchin-trained pacer was rolled to the top by driver Ryan Holliday, who proceeded to throw down fractions of :28, :57.4 and 1:27.2 before hammering home in :28.1 for the 1:55.3 decision. Two lengths in arrears was Mckinney, while Savage Seelster rallied well to finish third.
Brocks Fortune, a five-year-old son of Stonebridge Regal-Fannies Fortune, is a homebred owned by Mark Austin Stables, Noblock Racing Stable and Robert Chapple. It was his fourth win of the season and the 16th of his career. He’s just shy of reaching $290,000 in lifetime earnings.
One race earlier in the $7,500 Preferrred 3 for trotters it was Dragin The Wagon going wire-to-wire in 1:59 for the team of driver Anthony Haughan and trainer Jeff Byron. The five-year-old son of Angus Hall-Bridgeannika carved out fractions of :28.3, :59.1 and 1:29.1 before finishing off the competition with a :29.4 closing quarter. Waikiki Hanover was half a length in arrears, with Andovers Touch a very respectable third.
Sent off at odds of 5-1, the gelding improved his 2015 record to 3-4-2 from 15 starts with the win. He’s racked up more than $23,000 this season, and it’s helped boost his overall bankroll to $112,906 for the Cantelons – James, David and Michael.
