Fans at Mohawk Racetrack had a chance to catch some talented-looking two-year-olds in action for the first time during Tuesday’s 10-race card, as Smoke Monkey and Whatashowinontario turned in impressive performances in their respective debuts.

Smoke Monkey blew away the trotting foes he faced in his $14,000 assignment. Trevor Henry put the son of Majestic Son-Nashotah on the lead from Post 4 and the colt successfully sliced out panels of :29, :57.4 and 1:27.4 before cruising home in :30.3 to win by 6-1/4 lengths over Las Vegas Seelster (Kadabra-Ladycane) in 1:58.2. Donicus (Deweycheatumnhowe-Flying Dove Café) was third.

Chris Beaver trains the youngster for Synerco Ventures Inc of Toronto, Ontario. The rookie was a $9,000 purchase from the 2014 Harrisburg Yearling Sale.

Whatashowinontario was treated to a ground-saving trip in his first kick at the can, and the son of Real Artist-Owhat A Show fired home in :26.3 en route to producing an eye-catching victory in his maiden voyage. Paul MacDonell treated the colt to a two-hole trip behind race favourite, Think On It, who supplied fractions of :29.2, 1:00 and 1:29.4. Whatashowinontario angled for clear racetrack in deep stretch and sprinted home to stop the clock in 1:56.4. It was 1-3/4 length back to Im Sporty (Sportswriter-Mach You And Me), with the show dough going to Think On It (Ponder-Breathtacular).

David Snowden of Bowmanville, Ontario trains and owns the rookie who hails from a family of speed and big bankrolls. He’s a full-brother to Whatanartist (1:49 - $918,099), Show Me Up (1:52 - $500,216) and Show Off (Q1:53 - $218,591). He’s also a half brother to the Jennas Beach Boy gelding, Ohwhatabeachbum (1:51.2 - $357,656).
