Distaffers Duel In Summerside
Red Shores Summerside featured two divisions of the Atlantic Aged Mares pacing series on Sunday afternoon. The event is presented by Standardbred Canada and Red Shores.
The first split marked the return of Ramblinglily and she didn’t disappoint. The mare, trained by Allan Jones for his co-owner Norman Leger, Shediac, NB, burst off the gate to wire the field for Walter Cheverie in a new race record time of 1:55.4 for the five-year-old pacer. Dirt Track Momma was second with newcomer Lucksgottachange third.
It was Cheverie’s third winner on the day as he teams up with Long Run Exploration to raise money for Joyriders in the Drive for Charity promotion.
The second division was won by Brodys Leona and Corey MacPherson after they were able to shake loose to find racing room to score in 1:58.2 over a rain soaked oval. The mare is owned by Kerry and Emily Taylor and Lisa Richards. Willow Warrior closed hard to grab second while Roca Rei was third.
MacPherson kept rolling off the wins taking the afternoon feature with J RS Hurricane in 1:58 and the finale with veteran pacer Life Savior to record his 53rd lifetime triumph.
On other action, Lisfinny, owned by Mary Jane and Jay Noye, Pleasant Valley, notched her 35th lifetime victory in Race 4. Norris Rogers was in the bike for the milestone.
