Lucky Jim Towers Over Foley Foes
After going 0-for-9 in last year’s sophomore season, it is safe to say Lucky Jim has taken out a whole new lease on life for trainer Julie Miller.
Miller and her husband, driver Andy Miller, celebrated the seventh win of the season in as many tries with the four-year-old son of SJs Photo in Thursday evening’s second leg of the Father Foley Trotting Series.
The opening leg of the event was scrapped when only four horses were dropped in the entry box – and it is quite obvious why the box wasn’t flooded with entries.
Lucky Jim floated to the front shortly after Wind Surfer threw down a :28.1 opener. Miller and Lucky Jim cruised through middle splits of :57.3 and 1:26.4 before unleashing a :27.1 final frame en route to posting the 1:54 score. He was nearly three lengths better than runner-up Swan Image in the $20,000 tilt.. Wind Surfer rounded out the top three in the six-horse affair.
David & John Prushnok of Punxsutawney and William Gregg of Indiana, PA share ownership on the gelding, who potted $106,500 this season and more than $216,000 in his career.
The $45,000 (est.) final is scheduled for next Thursday at The Meadowlands.
