Ghost Pine Upsets In Century Open
Ghost Pine, the only horse to beat Who Doesnt since May 2014, did it again on Sunday afternoon at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino.
Hailing from the Kelly Hoerdt stable, Ghost Pine upset Who Doesnt for the second time in the past month in the $10,500 Open Pace. Sent postward as the 8-1 fourth choice in the five-horse field, he paid $18.40 to win.
Premium Attaction (Gerry Hudon) was the race leader through fractions of :28.4, :56.4 and 1:26 before being confronted by a from-last Who Doesnt (Travis Cullen) while Ghost Pine tracked the 1-5 favourite's cover. Tipping three-wide into the stretch, Ghost Pine rallied by Who Doesnt for the half-length victory in 1:55.2. Sotally Tober (Jamie Gray) finished two and three-quarter lengths behind in third while Blue Eyed Cowboy (Bill Tainsh Jr.) was fourth and Premium Attaction faded to fifth.
The win was Ghost Pine's 13th in 34 career starts and lifted his bankroll over $80,000. Hoerdt trains, drives and co-owns the four-year-old son of Badlands Hanover with Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, Alta.
