Big Night For Brown And MacMillan
Gord Brown showed the crowd on hand Saturday night at Kawartha Downs exactly why he’s the track’s top driver as he captured the first and last races on the 10-race program and added two in between. Three of his winners came from the stable of John MacMillan.
Brown, who had opening night at the Fraserville, Ontario track named in his honour two weeks ago in recognition of his recent achievement of 4,000 lifetime wins, got the night off on the right note as he guided Surge Seelster to a 1:56.1 winning effort. It was the first lifetime win for the three-year-old Camluck son owned by trainer Randy Van Meer and Harry Locke.
Brown’s next trip to the winner’s circle was courtesy of the maiden-breaking sophomore filly Gwens Star in 1:59.3 and he took the final two races of the night with older pacers Fortune Playboy (1:53.1) and Major Aaries (1:56.4) for the MacMillan stable. Brown’s win total is now at 4,049.
Racing returns to Kawartha Downs next Saturday, June 20, with the Celebration of the Horse evening, which includes Racing Under Saddle where the trotters are ridden in a race instead of driven. Post time is 7 p.m.
