Mares To Duke It Out At Red Shores

On Thursday, June 11, Dirt Track Momma will look to continue her razor-sharp 2015 season, but she will face off with the top mare of 2014 in this week’s $2,250 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.

First-race post time for the 12-dash card is 7 p.m. and the top mares will line up in for Race 11.

Dirt Track Momma has drawn Post 7 for the eight-horse contest. Trainer Marc Campbell will be in the driver’s seat for owner Jonah Moase of Warren Grove. The seven-year-old daughter of E Dees Cam has a win and a second-place finish from two seasonal starts, but will have to go bridle-to-bridle with the monster of the 2014 season, For All We Know, who will start from Post 6 for driver Gary Chappell, trainer Jackie Matheson and owner Bruce Wood of Marshfield.

For All We Know, who is a daughter of Rocknroll Hanover, had nine wins from 19 Maritime starts in 2014, including a stretch from the end of August where she never finished worse than second in 11 consecutive races. For All We Know will make the first start of her 2015 campaign from Post 6, while newcomer Romance In Camelot has Post 3 for driver Terry Gallant, trainer Earl Watts and owner Claude Poirier of the Magdalen Islands. The seven-year-old mare took her lifetime mark of 1:52.3 last August at Mohawk Racetrack in Ontario.

Other entries include Cool One (to be driven by Gordie Hennessey), Alliegetty (Corey MacPherson), General Luckypercy (Ron Matheson), Rose Valley (Kenny Arsenault) and Willow Warrior (Mark Bradley).

The $1,800 back-up pace will take to the track for Race 8. I D K is the morning line choice for driver Vincent Poulton, trainer Gary Poulton and owner Gail MacDonald of Charlottetown. The seven-year-old son of Stand Forever has been solid in 2015, but was the beaten favourite in his last start, leaving some room for Perfect Escape (Hennessey) to keep his two-race win streak alive from Post 7. The Jack Keenan and Joseph Dahl-owned pacer was a winner in 1:57 and change his last two starts. Other top entries include Cheyenne Ford (Arsenault) and First Art Down (Ken Murphy).

The $1,500 Open Trot will line up for Race 2 with Pleasure Girls (MacPherson) and Frill Seeker (Arsenault) set to go at it again from Post 3 and 4, respectively. Frill Seeker was a 2:01 winner last week in the class, but Pleasure Girls was victorious the two starts before hand.

Other entries include I Aint No Lady (Brian MacPhee), Presto Pegasus (Brian Andrew) and Caliban Hanover (Ron Gass).

Money Show is the favourite in the $1,350 trot class (Race 4), but trainer-driver Andrew will have to overcome the outside Post 7 if he is going to land in the winner’s circle for co-owners Blake and William Andrew. Next top choices are Howmacs Pride (Arsenault) and JK Queen (Walter Cheverie).
