Elimination Mania To Rock Mohawk

The red carpet will be rolled out for the sport’s Glamour Boys as they battle in a trio of Pepsi North America Cup eliminations during Saturday evening’s 13-race card at Mohawk Racetrack, but they’re not the only stars in town this weekend.

The Campbellville, Ontario oval will also host some of the sport’s leading ladies as they do battle in eliminations for the Fan Hanover Stake and the Roses Are Red Stake on Saturday evening, but first up will be Friday’s eliminations for the Armbro Flight Stake and the Goodtimes Stake.

Fresh off his win in the $100,000 New Jersey Sires Stakes final at The Meadowlands, Canepa Hanover will look to keep the ball rolling in the first of Friday’s $30,000 Goodtimes Stake eliminations. He starts from Post 5 in Race 2 for the duo of driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Jimmy Takter. The three-year-old son of Muscle Hill-Cressida Hanover is closing in on $100,000 in career earnings.

Among the foes he’ll be facing are Ontario Sires Stakes winners Rubber Duck (1:57.2 - $52,172), Olympic Son (1:56.4 - $97,508) and Muscle Up The Goal (1:56.3 - $98,100).

Takter and Gingras will also join forces in the second elimination with French Laundry, who will start from Post 2 in Race 9. The son of Muscles Yankee-Creamy Mimi, who was second to Canepa Hanover in the recently contested NJSS final, is an eight-time winner with career earnings in excess of $350,000.

He’s scheduled to spar with stablemate The Bank (1:53.4 - $147,863) in addition recent Ontario Sires Stakes winner, Infiniti AS (1:55 - $41,686), just to name a few.

Seventeen of racing’s top older trotting mares will square off in a set of $35,000 Armbro Flight Stake eliminations, which go as Race 3 and Race 7 on the Friday evening program.

Fresh off her win in the $200,000 Charlie Hill Memorial, Bee A Magician will take on seven rivals in the first elimination. Brian Sears will be paired up once again with the Richard ‘Nifty’ Norman trainee, and together they’ll depart from Post 2. The five-year-old daughter of Kadabra-Beehive, who is 4-for-5 this season, will shoot for her 36th lifetime win while attempting to add to her bankroll which stands in excess of $3-million.

She’ll square off with arch rival – and defending Armbro Flight Stake champion - Classic Martine (1:51.1 - $1,053,054) in addition to the streaking tandem of Handover Belle (1:51.4 - $468,715) and Allie Labrook (1:52 - $165,987).

Shake It Cerry figures to get loads of attention in the other Armbro Flight elimination, as she starts from Post 3 for driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Jimmy Takter. Fresh off a 1:51.4 score in a leg of the Graduate Series at The Meadowlands, the award-winning four-year-old daughter of Donato Hanover-Solveig will shoot for her 26th lifetime tally while trying to add to a bankroll that has climbed over $2.1-million.

Keeping the ball rolling won’t come easy for Shake It Cerry, however, thanks to the presence of Rockin With Dewey (1:52 - $377,537), Charmed Life (1:52.2 - $810,932) and Frau Blucher (1:51.2 - $975,932).

Shake It Cerry, Rockin With Dewey and Charmed Life are all members of the ’Stable That God Loves’.

Nineteen fillies dropped their name in the entry box for this year’s Fan Hanover Stake, which features a set of $35,000 eliminations during Saturday’s program.

The undefeated JK Shesalady makes her second start of the season in the first elimination, which is slated for Race 3 on the card. Tim Tetrick will look to keep the streak intact with the Nancy Johansson-trained daughter of Art Major-Presidential Lady. The career winner of $947,375, who is 13-for-13, departs from Post 3 in what will be her second start of the season. She was a 1:51.2 winner in her 2015 debut at Tioga Downs on May 25 in a division of the New York Sires Stakes.

Standing in her way will be the talented trio of Bettor Be Steppin (1:51.2 - $344,093), Sassa Hanover (1:50.1 - $530,247) and The Show Returns (1:51 - $193,277), just to name a few.

Ontario Sires Stakes star, Solar Sister, will take on nine other foes in the second elimination. The daughter of Mach Three is out of a past Fan Hanover Stakes champion, Cabrini Hanover, and looks as though the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree. Trained by Gregg McNair and driven by Doug McNair, the filly is 4-for-4 this season after assembling a 2-3-4 record from 13 starts as a freshman. The career winner of $378,658 will depart from Post 8 in Race 4 on Saturday evening.

Standing between her and the winner’s circle will be likes of Doctor Terror (1:52.1 - $172,518), Moonlit Dance (1:52 - $85,879) and Happiness (1:50.3 - $75,765).

Meanwhile, the Roses Are Red Stakes has attracted 15 of the game’s grittiest distaffers and they’ll do battle in Race 9 and Race 10.

Anndrovette’s quest for an unprecedented fourth Roses Are Red title will begin in the first elimination. Tim Tetrick will be paired up with the Jeff Bamond, Jr.-trained daughter of Riverboat King-Easy Miss. The iron-tough eight-year-old, who will depart from Post 1, is a 42-time winner with purse earnings in excess of $3.2 million.

Defending her title won’t be easy, however, as the likes of Radar Contact (1:49.2 - $896,307), Waasmula (1:49.2 - $679,660) and Lady Shadow (1:49.2 - $500,179) are just a few of the fierce foes she’ll be facing.

Krispy Apple, a stablemate of Anndrovette, will tote a three-race winning streak into the second elimination for trainer Jeff Bamond, Jr. The seven-year-old daughter of Western Ideal-Apple Krisp will start from Post 3 with Tim Tetrick in tow. The 31-time winner has stashed away more than $1.3 million to date.

Ready to butt heads with her in the second elimination will be last year’s Jugette champion, Colors A Virgin (1:51 - $781,072) in addition to Beach Gal (1:49.3 - $480,130) and Venus Delight (1:50.2 - $439,268).

The top five finishers from each of the eliminations will advance to the respective finals, and elimination winners earn their connections the right to pick a post position for the final.
