The Meadows Features Pair Of Preferreds
Trailing by six lengths at the half, Michaelrowyourboat unleashed a powerful kick that carried him to victory in the $25,000 Preferred Handicap Trot
Wednesday at The Meadows.
Primo Spur, who was sent off as the 3-5 favourite, took the field through a comfortable half in :59 seconds, and it appeared that the race was for place. Michaelrowyourboat, however, responded to the urging of trainer/driver Jimmy Smith and sailed by Primo Spur and held off a hard-charging Oatmeister to win by a head in 1:55.3. Primo Spur was third.
Flowing Mineral Farm owns Michaelrowyourboat, a four-year-old gelded son of Victory Sam-Tall Sunflower. He lowered his lifetime mark by two fifths of a second and triumphed for the 14th time in 2008-2009.
In the $25,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Trot, Im Justa Lady served notice early that she was the best when she pocketed the venerable Whotookwhat. Im Justa Lady, an eight-year-old daughter of Inquirer-Quite Becoming, went on to post the victory in 1:56.3 over Toms OK Lady and Whotookwhat.
Tony Hall drove Im Justa Lady for trainer Bill Daumit and owners Janet Collins and Patricia Daumit.
