Cullen Mares Continue Domination

Between his top two distaffers Sing Like An Angel and Feelin Flush, trainer Travis Cullen has won every single Mares Open contested so far at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino. On Friday night, Sing Like An Angel made it six straight for the track's leading trainer.

With track record holder Feelin Flush scheduled to compete in a later claiming race, Sing Like An Angel represented the Cullen stable in the $10,500 top distaff class with a wire-to-wire victory. The five-year-old Bettors Delight mare took the lead from post two and carved out fractions of :27.2, :57.2 and 1:25.3 en route to the 1:54 triumph. She now has two Open wins in a row and four in total through the inaugural meet with top three placings behind Feelin Flush in the other two events.

Sing Like An Angel paid $2.10 to win as the overwhelming favourite in the field that was scratched down to five starters. Rummys Command (Keith Clark) and Blue Star Beauty (Kelly Hoerdt) finished second and third, respectively.

Cullen shares ownership of the 28-time career winner with his mother Jodie and partners Keith and Margaret Hannah of Waskada, Manitoba.

In the finale, Feelin Flush rallied three-wide from the outer flow after trailing the field of nine early on to win her Friday assignment in 1:55.3, giving Cullen his fifth victory on the nine-race card. The seven-year-old As Promised mare is co-owned by her trainer and Ken Hanson of Strathclair, Manitoba.

The Cullen-trained Who Doesnt has also dominated the Open ranks and will try to improve upon his three-for-four record on Sunday afternoon.
