Traceur Hanover Returns

Fans of harness racing’s ‘glamour boys’ division have been waiting for the three-year-old debut of Traceur Hanover, and the Western Ideal colt made his seasonal charted debut on Friday (May 29) during Mohawk Racetrack’s eight-race qualifying session.

Last season’s Breeders Crown Two-Year-Old Colt Pace winner got right down to business over the Campbellville seven-eighths-mile oval, as he lined up in the outside Post 6 for Race 1.

Traceur Hanover and driver Randy Waples surveyed the scene as the wings of the starting gate folded. The duo opted for third as the opening quarter clock flashed to life in :28.3.

Waples sent his mount to the lead in the second panel. Traceur Hanover, who is trained by Normand Bardier Jr., was overland when he clicked off the opening half-mile timer in :57.2.

Traceur Hanover opened up daylight between himself and the rest of the field on the final turn. He had a three and a half-length lead by the time he whizzed by the three-quarters station in 1:25.2, and tacked on an additional five lengths in the lane.

The career winner of $423,475 capped off his mile with a :27.2 final quarter and hit the wire in 1:52.4. Jet Black Cadillac, who finished second, was more than eight lengths in arrears. The third-place finisher, Tea With Ms McGill, suffered broken equipment in the mile and finished third, 11 lengths back of Traceur Hanover.

Traceur Hanover has been assessed as the 16-1 sixth choice in Trot Magazine’s 2015 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book.
