Instant Racing Coming To Kentucky?

According to an article on cincinnati.com, Kentucky senator Damon Thayer has asked attorney general Jack Conway via a letter if instant racing -- a video game that allows betting on archived races -- can be conducted under current law at licensed tracks in Kentucky

.

The report cites Thayer as saying that instant racing is not meant to provide new tax revenue to the state, but to increase purses and betting activity at the state's race tracks. The article goes on to say that at Arkansas thoroughbred racetrack Oaklawn, the amount of money bet on instant racing has grown from $45 million in 2003 to $225 million in 2007.

"This might be more politically viable that casinos or slots," the cincinnati.com report quotes Thayer, as saying. "It will make us more competitive with surrounding states that have casinos, and it will increase purses at the race tracks."
