Sires Stakes Open In London Tonight

The Raceway at Western Fair District will kick off the 2015 Ontario Sires Stakes season this evening (Wednesday, May 27) with four Gold Series divisions for the three-year-old trotting colts and geldings.

Local entries for tonight’s OSS races, which are worth a total of $210,000, include El Diablo Hall, who will start from Post 1 in the second division for co-owner Dale Hunter of London, and Ballykeel Bomber, who will start from Post 3 in the third division for Tillsonburg resident Cam McKnight’s Ballykeel Racing Inc.

Post time for tonight’s ‘Gold’ leg, the first of five on the sophomore trotting colt schedule, is 6:15 p.m.

On Friday, May 29 Ontario’s impressive three-year-old pacing colts and geldings will compete in their first Gold Series leg, part of an outstanding evening of racing that also features the $150,000 Molson Pace and the City of London Series finals.

Four pacing colts with local connections will battle in Friday’s contest, starting in the first $70,000 division with Sportsmanship and Dialamara. Sportsmanship, co-owned by Parkinson Farms of Lucan, will benefit from Post 1, while Dialamara, owned by John Lamers of Ingersoll, gets Post 6. In the third division Sportskeeper carries the hopes of co-owner Merlin Howse of Langton from Post 1 and J Js Delivery will compete from Post 3 for Bob Hamather of Exeter.

Fans at Friday’s event will be able to watch the world-class racing on a large trackside video monitor; enter to win Rock The Park tickets, NHL beer fridges and many other prizes; try their luck on the $7,500 early Pick-4 and Super Hi-5 or $10,000 late Pick-4 and Super Hi-5; and much more.

Racing action will get underway at 7:15 p.m.
