Opening Day At Summerside
Outside The Wire, with Jason Hughes in the bike, won the opening day feature race in a sparkling 1:55 flat Sunday at Red Shores Summerside.
The Blue Knight used rail control to his advantage by sending the six-year-old pacer to the point and rolled through fractions :28.2, :57.2 and 1:26.1 to win by open lengths. Bowyer Hanover (Walter Cheverie) was second with J RS Hurricane (Gary Chappell) third.
Outside The Wire is trained by Craig Avery and owned by Andrew Avery of Freetown, P.E.I. and John Brodrick of Manning, Alta.
The victory completed a driving hat-trick for Hughes, who picks up where he left off last year at the top of the leaderboard.
Whatabadgirl and driver Mike Stevenson opened the 2015 season with a 2:00.4 performance for trainer/owner Kristina McCourt of Summerside, P.E.I.
In other action, Life Savior notched his 52nd lifetime score to start the new campaign at the Prince County Oval. Corey MacPherson did the driving for owner Darla MacEachern and trainer Duane MacEachern of Kensington, P.E.I.
